Are you completing your Duke of Edinburgh Award and looking for a mentally stimulating activity for your Skills section?
Something that will give you a skill for life.
South Shields Chess Club is proud to support young people working towards their Duke of Edinburgh award.
We provide a welcoming environment where Duke of Edinburgh participants can learn and grow through chess. Our weekly club sessions offer the chance to play and socialise with players of all ages and abilities. We know that young peoples lives are now filled with so many other events that committing to a set time each week may be difficult , but we have a number opportunities during the week to maximise the hours needed .
Experienced members are on hand to provide coaching and guidance to help you improve. We’ll work with you to set clear goals, track your progress, and ensure all requirements for your Duke of Edinburgh Skills section are met. Once you’ve completed your hours, we can provide an assessment and sign off your achievement.
It should not be just about achieving hours on an attendance sheet . We can take absolute beginners and enable them to enter a formal tournament with confidence.
Young people can obtain a free one year membership of the English Chess Federation and watch how their grade improves over time .
